Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru les Peuillets 2022 | Famille Guérin

A Savigny Premier Cru full of finesse – charm, freshness, and delicacy all in one.

This top Burgundy wine, from a small plot ideally located in the heart of the “Les Peuillets” climate, reveals all the charm of Burgundy Pinot Noir. Behind its purple color, it unfolds a delicate nose of fresh red fruit, raspberry, and morello cherry. On the palate, the round and silky texture is balanced by a beautiful freshness and subtle tannins, resulting in a wine that is both full-bodied and elegant.

The estate

The Guérin family has been active as winegrowers in Change for five generations. Originally starting out with mixed farming, they switched entirely to viticulture in the 1970s, with a 6-hectare vineyard. In the 1990s, they stopped raising livestock and growing fruit to focus entirely on viticulture, which resulted in 45 hectares of vineyards in 2016. Today, Pierre-Antoine and Manon, the fifth generation, manage 60 hectares of vineyards, 35 of which are classified as Hautes-Côtes de Beaune.

They use sustainable methods, such as high, wide vines, which promote biodiversity and reduce the use of machinery and additives. Since 2020, the estate has had the HVE 3 label (Haute Valeur Environnementale 3). Part of the production is sold through a cooperative, while another part is bottled at the estate and sold exclusively to local business relations (and the occasional private individual who happens to pass by the cave), making the Guérin family's wines relatively rare, especially outside France.

  • The grapes are completely destemmed and sorted by hand, after which they undergo a cold maceration to preserve the fruit. Fermentation then proceeds slowly, with regular punch-downs and pump-overs to extract color and refine the tannins.

The wine is then aged for 12 months in oak barrels, which give it complexity and smoothness without masking the purity of the fruit.
