Maranges 1er cru La Fussière 2023

A powerful and refined Maranges Premier Cru, the elegance of Pinot Noir combined with the richness of a great Côte de Beaune terroir.

La Fussière, from the most renowned slopes of Maranges, expresses all the finesse of the Pinot Noir of the Côte de Beaune. Its deep ruby color is followed by an elegant nose of ripe red fruit, morello cherries, and sweet spices. On the palate, the wine seduces with its balance between power, freshness, and silky tannins, with a subtle touch of wood in the finish.

Body: strong

Tannins: moderately tannic

Sweetness: dry

Acidity: medium acidity

Food pairing: pairs perfectly with beef and veal, roasted poultry, and game birds such as pheasant or partridge. Also delicious with refined stews, mushroom dishes, and aged cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort. Serve at 15–16 °C.

The estate

The Guérin family has been active as winegrowers in Change for five generations. Originally starting out with mixed farming, they switched entirely to viticulture in the 1970s, with a 6-hectare vineyard. In the 1990s, they stopped raising livestock and growing fruit to focus entirely on viticulture, which resulted in 45 hectares of vineyards in 2016. Today, Pierre-Antoine and Manon, the fifth generation, manage 60 hectares of vineyards, 35 of which are classified as Hautes-Côtes de Beaune.

They use sustainable methods, such as high, wide vines, which promote biodiversity and reduce the use of machinery and additives. Since 2020, the estate has had the HVE 3 label (Haute Valeur Environnementale 3). Part of the production is sold through a cooperative, while another part is bottled at the estate and sold exclusively to local business relations (and the occasional private individual who happens to pass by the cave), making the Guérin family's wines relatively rare, especially outside France.

  • Upon arrival at the wine cellar, the grapes are carefully destemmed and sorted. After cold maceration prior to fermentation, slow fermentation takes place, with regular pumping and pumping over to extract color, aromas, and matter.

The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12 months, giving it a velvety texture, extra complexity, and a harmonious integration of the wood. This patient work results in a Pinot Noir full of character, which is both precise and generous and can age beautifully for ten to fifteen years.
